Google Is Raising the Price of Nest Aware and Aware Plus

Nest Aware and Aware Plus customers are about to pay a bit more for the service.

Nest raised its prices for the subscription service, Nest Aware, this week to $8 a month or $80 a year, an increase over its previous price of $6 a month or $60 per year, which has been in effect since May 2020, 9to5Google reports.

Nest Aware Plus gets a similar increase, jumping from $12 a month or $120 a year to $15 a month or $150 a year.

Both services help you monitor your home by offering sound detection for things like breaking glass or your smoke alarm, and a “familiar faces” feature that gets to know your friends and family and lets you know if a stranger enters your home.

The main difference between the Nest Aware and Aware Plus plans is how long each stores video. With Nest Aware you’re only able to view event video history for 30 dates. With Aware Plus, that video history jumps to 60 days of event history storage. Aware Plus subscribers can also access 24/7 video history from their homes for up to 10 days.

The new pricing is in effect right now for new users. Existing users in the US, UK, and Australia will see their rates increase in "fall 2023," Google says. "For other countries or territories: We'll notify you through email at least 30 days ahead of a price increase."

On a help page, Google explains the price increase by saying “Subscription prices can change to keep up with market shifts, which can include inflation and local tax updates.” You can check how much you’re paying for the service through your Google Store subscription page.

Google notes that price changes will not impact those who have canceled their subscriptions (obviously) or people who receive Nest Aware through a partner such as ADT.
